FAQ

  • Do we get the entire house?
The rental is usually only for the upper apartment comprising the balcony, large sitting/dining room and open kitchen and two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Special arrangements can be made for both (unconnected and independent) apartments if the lower one is not being used by the family.
  • What are the main sites nearby?
Paestum (Greek temples), Pompeii (Roman ruins) Velia (greek port), Padula (Monastery with cloisters), Rocca Cilento (large renovated castle). Amalfi, Positano can be reached by hydrofoil in summer or by car. It’s a tricky narrow winding drive though once you get there. For anyone unaccustomed to Italian drivers and country roads it will prove a little challenging. Capri is an island and can only be reached by hydrofoil from San Marco or by car and boat from Positano, Sorrento or Naples.
  • Are animals allowed in the house?
We regret that we do not permit that. From past experience, the deep cleaning required afterwards is just too much work.
  • How far is it from Naples airport?
Just under two hours. See directions section.
  • Is there a washing machine and dishwasher?
    Yes, the house has both.
  • Are there good restaurants nearby?
Yes, there are at least five in Castellabate itself and plenty more in Santa Maria and San Marco. See the restaurants section.
  • Does the house have wifi?
Yes, it has high speed wifi. We have worked and video-conferenced from there as has someone who works for Google.
  • How accessible is the house for less mobile people?
The house is not suitable for wheelchair users. There are about 40 sloping steps to the entrance. There are handrails all the way down in fact, yet for anyone not entirely steady on their feet, we would respectfully suggest that this may not be the most suitable place for them.
  • How far away are the food shops?
There’s one almost immediately down the slope back to the main road and one further back up the main road towards Perdifumo. The former (Maria) is the larger and extremely well provisioned. The second smaller one is also very good. We tend to use them both for good measure.
  • Are the beaches accessible by car?
Yes. Several of the beach establishments (Lidos) have their own private parking. Santa Maria has a large parking area to the North of the town and walking through the high street you can reach the two small beaches in the village itself as well as the Lidos beyond after the boardwalk and the Perrotti (Norman) tower.
  • How far is it from Salerno (Amalfi Coast) airport?
Should do it in under an hour. See directions section.
  • Is there a pool?
There is not. We love the sea and the plot of land we have does not easily lend itself to pool construction.
  • Is there air conditioning?
Yes, both bedrooms have air conditioning and so does the main sitting and dining room.
  • Is there a parking space by the house?
Yes, there’s private parking ten metres from the house.
